Neti Pots have been a staple in our house for a long time. Some of us use them during summer for relief from seasonal allergies and we all use during cold and flu season (and used during the peak of Covid) for lurgy prevention. I also used them to unblock my nose to allow nasal breathing using the Butyeko method, to strengthen my respiratory system, and gradually come off inhalers, following pleurisy triggered asthmatic symptoms after having my second son. It’s important to use cooled boiled water and pure salt with no additives. We use 100% sea salt. The concentration of salt to water is important too (or it can sting) If the salt isn’t finely milled, we blitz it in the food processor then store for use and that works great. During allergy season G does a Neti pot in the morning and evening, and makes sure to breathe through his nose throughout the day. He also finds now he stays away from dairy that his symptoms are generally much milder. When the pollen is really, high another trick he uses is to rub a little vicks vapo rub on the end of his nose to catch the pollen. #inharmonywithyourbody #inharmonywithnature #inharmonywitheverything #netipot
I’ve been meaning to share all week some seasonal supports that really help in our family as I know there is a lot of non-Covid lurgy around at the moment. The A Vogel is for children aged 12 and over, so it’s not for wee ones. Just after Alfie was born, I had pleurisy and developed asthmatic symptoms, and recurrent chest infections. (As an aside my immune system being shot was one of the catalysts for my yoga and well-being journey). I ended up going to see Jan De Vries. He put me onto the A Vogel stuff and I found it helped supporting me getting my system back on track. At the first sign of a tingly nose or a scratchy throat I start taking Echinaforce, and use the throat spray. Personally, I find it to be more effective than some of the more synthetic sprays. I find bronchoforce to be good if the lurgy gets into the chest. Another tip I learned when I was practising butyeko breathing is if the chest is congested to try drinking warm water with a little bit of sea salt in it to help break up the mucus. Sea salt in warm water can also be used as a gargle for sore throats. Epsom salt baths with some of the four thieves oil dropped into the salt is also really soothing and, I find, lurgy repellent. And the other things we use at this time of year are Neti pots for nasal cleansing and coconut oil for oil pulling. The Elderberry and echinacea tea is another immune support, along with eating well and getting enough sleep (see separate post on my skincare group). So these are just some things that we use in our family to try and make us a little bit more bullet proof. I think this year that’s going to be even more important because with everybody being isolated last winter peoples’ immune systems need all the support they can get. So if you’re feeling lurgied at the moment sending lots of love and maybe one of these things may help you to get back on your feet XXXX
